Sorris in a cave

A 3rd person, high fantasy, narritive driven game that has the player drawing symbols on screen to cast magic to help escape a cave

Sorris in a cave is a 3rd person narrative game made in 5 weeks during my 1st year of game design at AIE (2020) where you play a narcissistic know-it all wizard by the name of Sorris. The player must escape a cave prison by drawing symbols on-screen to cast magic to solve puzzles.

This symbol drawing mechanic was made with "Pdollar" a gesture recognition tool but modified since I had some troubles getting it to work on multiple computers

Sorris in a cave story

You, Sorris wakes up in a cave after being knocked out by a group of dwarves, with you knowledge and magicical abilities you must find a way out.

What i did

My task through this project was to make a detailed character including goals, likes, dislikes, medical conditions, personality etc etc as well as craft a setting for the game and create a game with all this information. I built a cave level using "polycave" art assets provided by AIE (my university) with cart tracks and ores to make it appear as a mine.

Additonally i created a game design document as well as art/mood boards for the project.

Features I'm most proud of

  • I'm very proud of the first and major mechanic of this game the drawing system, the player draws on the screen with a mouse and a gesture recognition program (called dollar) gets the information and turn it into an action, as i said before pDollar was the base for this and with my teachers help the both of us did some modifications to it to fix some bugs. The level i made looks and feels natural like a natural cave that's been mined out a little this helps push the narrative. lastly I like how the VFX i made for this project.
